Course

There is no one word that describes Nk’Mip Canyon Desert Golf Course in Oliver. Centuries before the course was created the Okanagan people who lived here had formed an affinity with the canyons, the game, the wind, and the water that nurtured their lives and added dimension to this region of the valley. They referred to the area as “Nk’Mip” (Inkameep) whose English meaning roughly translates as “flat bottom land at the mouth of the creek or river”. However the translation lacks the imagery of their language. The Okanagan saw land in terms of pictures that went deeper than words and when you see the Nk’Mip Canyon Desert Golf Course you will understand why.

The South Okanagan's newest course!

Owned and operated by the Osoyoos Indian Band, Nk’Mip Canyon expanded from a relaxed nine-hole course to a championship model in 2001. Its local field designers listened to the symmetry of the elevated Land to the north of the original nine and responded with a daring reply – adding 13 expansion holes and renovating 5 existing ones. The result is a striking blend of natural contrasts divided into the desert- dominated Canyon Nine, which delights in throwing the elements at an unwary golfer, and the more laid-back Grove Nine whose verdant fairways and greens welcome a long drive and a satisfying putt. Come play through the spectacular vineyard, sage and stone vistas and watch the sun play tricks on the mountains.

Course Information

 The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 4

Target just right of center letting the natural slope bring you back to the middle of the fairway. Select a club off the tee that will leave you 140 yards into a narrow green opening.

The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 4

Aim your tee shot right side of the fairway bunker; wind direction will be a factor on how much corner to cut off the dogleg.

The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 3

This elevated green is designed to accept shots entering from the right. A little long is better than short to avoid the deep left front bunker.

 The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 4

Our most challenging hole off the tee requiring a safe shot down the left side of the big Ponderosa Pine leaving a 130yd downhill approach, to a well guarded green.

 The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 4

This challenging Par 4 is a true test. Although it plays down hill you are left with a long second shot to a well guarded green. The right side is all carry over a large waste bunker.

 The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 4

Aim tee shot middle of wide fairway. Second shot is to a two- tiered green requiring an extra club from the middle of the fairway. 31 ft elevation difference.

 The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 5

A deceptively tough hole. Not much trouble off the tee but lots of trouble with bunkers left and center of the fairway. Position ball left of the large willow for best angle to raised green that runs away from the player.

 The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 3

Looks can be deceiving. This short Par 3 can bite you. Middle of this large undulating green will always be safe. Long is not good.

 The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 5

Uphill double dogleg demands long left to right tee shot to the middle of the fairway. Second shot all uphill requiring one or two more clubs to a small undulating green.

The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 4

Take your driver down the left side of the fairway. Avoiding the gully on the right leaves an easy mid-iron second shot to a deep green.

 The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 4

Welcome to the canyon! This short uphill hole best played down the right to avoid desert and water. Play your tee shot to leave a 100 yd approach but watch the large pond left of the green.

 The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 3

Enjoy the view before tackling this tricky Par 3. Swirling winds can make club selection difficult, Short is safe but long, left or right is all trouble. The 50ft drop in elevation will make the hole play 1 to 2 clubs shorter depending on the wind.

 The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 4

Getting thirsty? A wide open tee shot aimed through the middle of the Vineyard favoring the left side. Wide green sloping back to front with bunker behind.

 The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 3

Club selection is very important to this harmless looking downhill Par 3. Avoid long and/or left. 24 foot drop from blue tees to this undulating green.

 The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 5

The Chief! Our longest hole and usually into the prevailing wind. Two accurate woods down a narrowing fairway will leave a short approach to a flat, deep green.

The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 4

Hit tee shot down left side of fairway aiming left of distant pines. This avoids trouble on the right and gives the best angle into the green.

 The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 4

Aim blind tee shot at big bush middle of fairway. An accurate second shot is a must to this well protected green.

 The South Okanagan's Finest Golf
Par 5

A superb finishing hole requiring both accuracy and length. Wide off the tee but a very narrow approach to a well protected undulated green with large pond front and right.
